Frequently asked questions
Why is the i-matra typed first?
Remington follows the typewriter, which printed what you see from left to right - and ि is drawn to the left of its consonant. Unicode stores it after, which is why converters have to reorder it.
How do I type a half letter?
Most consonants have a half form on their own key, usually the Shift layer. For the joined conjuncts क्ष त्र ज्ञ श्र the chart gives the exact keys.
The two rules that trip everyone up
The i-matra ि is typed before its consonant, and the reph (the र that sits on top) is typed after the whole syllable. Everything else goes in the order you read it. Beginners and exam candidates (SSC, CPCT, court) lose more marks to these two than to anything else.
